A former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai, is the daughter of Krishnaraj Rai, a marine engineer, and Vrinda Rai, a writer. She was born in 1973 and has an elder brother named Aditya Rai. She completed her schooling from Arya Vidya Mandir School in Santacruz, Mumbai, and followed her graduation from Jai Hind College and Ruparel College, Mumbai.
Aishwarya Rai entered the film industry in the year 1997 with a Tamil film called Iruvar, a Mani Ratnam production. She made her Bollywood debut with a big budget movie called Jeans. Immediately followed by her movie Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya in the same year, which fetched her the Best Female Debutante Award. She is best remembered for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, a movie which gave her critical acclamation. Her spunk is what separates her from rest of the glam brigade. With a series of big budget movies including Taal and Devdas, Aishwarya became one of the most sought-after actresses in Bollywood. By being the first Indian actor to be a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival, Aishwarya started venturing towards untested territories. In 2004, she made her English film debut with Bride and Prejudice due to which she became a common name even in International Cinema fraternity. |
